Karen Khachanov and Maxime Cressy will take on each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 ATP Astana Open on Tuesday, October 4.
Although Karen Khachanov placed second in his season-opening match in Adelaide in January, his journey to the semifinal of the US Open last month will be remembered as his best performance of the year. In a row, he defeated three players in good form—Jack Draper, Pablo Carreno Busta, and Nick Kyrgios—and in the quarterfinal, he took a set off eventual runner-up Casper Ruud. After his failures in the warm-up events, it was not anticipated that the Russian would perform so well in New York. Prior to competing in the US Open, he lost three of his five matches in the summer hardcourt swing and did not appear to be fully fit at the Washington and Montreal Masters.
In his first full season on the main tour, Maxime Cressy‘s body finally appears to have begun to feel the strain of playing over 50 matches at the highest level as he retired from the US Open a few weeks ago and lost to the inexperienced (on the main tour) Constant Lestienne in the quarterfinal in Tel Aviv last week. The French-American fell to Mikael Ymer in this tournament’s final qualifying round last year, but since then, a lot has changed, and he is now a top-40 player. In these ten months, he has defeated three top-20 players while competing in three championship matches (1-2) on the main circuit.
Maxime Cressy and Karen Khachanov are scheduled to face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 ATP Astana Open on Tuesday, October 4. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 3 and end on October 9.
The ATP Astana Open 2022 will feature five rounds of competition apart from the qualifying matches. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-final, semi-final and final. The tournament is scheduled to start on Monday, October 3 and conclude on Sunday, October 9.
