Borna Coric of Croatia will attempt to resume his ascension in the rankings on Tuesday when he faces Lorenzo Musetti, who is ranked 33rd, in the opening round of the 2022 ATP Cincinnati Open.

On grass, clay, and hard surfaces, Borna Coric‘s career results are largely comparable, although this year, he has had trouble getting going on the latter. In his four matches, he has only won once, defeating veteran Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in Miami. His other losses have come to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Alexander Zverev, and most recently Marin Cilic in Montreal. Prior to then, Coric had neglected to watch the entire grass swing in favour of the Challenger circuit, where he competed on clay. He continued on to win a championship in Parma and has gradually begun to rekindle some of his former fire.
The Italian excels on clay, which is why he recently entered the top 30 of the ATP Rankings before settling in at number 33 right now. However, Lorenzo Musetti‘s performance significantly deteriorates on grass and hard courts. For instance, Musetti is 21-7 on clay courts this year compared to 4-7 on hard courts. Early in the year, he won the first round of the Pune Open before making a rare indoor quarterfinal appearance in Rotterdam and then winning the first round at Indian Wells. His only notable efforts on this surface this season have been those two. Musetti had to pass the qualifying rounds in order to advance to the main draw in this tournament, just like in the 2021 edition, which was the first time he played on the court. His attempt had failed the previous year, but this time, his victories over Daniel Altmaier and Dusan Lajovic had given him the edge.
Borna Coric and Lorenzo Musetti are scheduled to face one another in the Opening round of the 2022 Cincinnati Open on Tuesday, August 16. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 14 till August 21.
The 2022 Cincinnati Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 14 and conclude on August 21 this year.
