On Monday at the US Open, 2020 US Open winner Dominic Thiem will square off against Pablo Carreno Busta, a two-time semifinalist.
During the current North American hardcourt swing, Pablo Carreno Busta has changed the course of his season. The Spaniard began by leading his native nation to the ATP Cup finals, where they fell to Canada. He advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open before being defeated by Matteo Berrettini. After that, Carreno Busta continued to get inconsistent outcomes. He had a notable performance at the Barcelona Open, when he was defeated by his countryman and friend Carlos Alcaraz in the championship match. The 31-year-old reached the Swedish Open semifinals and the Halle Open quarterfinals. However, Carreno Busta just made a huge step forward when he won the Canadian Masters, the biggest championship of his career. Hubert Hurkacz was no match for him in the decisive battle.
The season of Dominic Thiem has not been up to standard. The former World No. 3 has struggled with injuries and other health issues this year, which has prevented him from regaining his once-threatening form. With a Challenger competition in Marbella, Thiem attempted to resume his competitive career, but he was unsuccessful. The Austrian didn’t get his first victory in 14 months until a Challenger competition in Salzburg. Then, in the Swedish Open, the Austrian Open, where he reached the quarterfinals, and the Swiss Open, where he made it to the semifinals, Thiem amassed some desirable results. The 28-year-most old’s recent outing came at the Winston-Salem Open, where he earned two unusual victories over Grigor Dimitrov in the second round after the latter left the match in the middle of it and Jeffrey John Wolf in the first round’s decisive tiebreak. In the third round against Jack Draper, Thiem ultimately met his demise. At the tour level, he has nine victories and ten defeats so far this year.
Pablo Carreno Busta and Dominic Thiem are scheduled to face one another in the first round match of the US Open 2022 on Monday, August 29. The 2022 US Open is all set to begin from August 29 till September 11.
The 2022 US Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 29 and conclude on September 11 this year.
