On Monday in the opening round of the 2022 US open Arthur Rinderknech of France will face his compatriot Quentin Halys.
The last time Arthur Rinderknech managed to win was at a Challenger tournament in Vancouver, where he also beat players like Elias Ymer and Vasek Pospisil before falling to fellow countryman Constant Lestienne in a three-set final. By making it to the final in Adelaide and the semifinal in Doha, the Frenchman had a successful start to 2022 after making his breakthrough on the main circuit in 2021. However, his progress was hampered by fitness issues, and he has already won just one of his previous eight matches in the main draw of events at the tour-level. The world #58 won his first main-draw match at a grand slam tournament here at the US Open in 2021 after rallying from a set and a half down against Miomir Kecmanovic. Four of his seven (2-5) first-round slam encounters to date have gone the full two hours.
Even worse, Quentin Halys‘ performance going into this campaign. In the past two months, he has been forced to retire twice, bageled twice by Jordan Thompson and Ilya Ivashka, and has only been able to win three of his last 11 games. The big-serving Frenchman has made five visits in the competition without recording a main-draw victory, in contrast to his compatriot Arthur Rinderknech, who required just one opportunity to open his account in the US Open main draw. He has a dismal 3-10 record in matches played in the opening round of slams, but he just halted a nine-match losing streak at this point by upsetting a shaky Benoit Paire at Wimbledon a few months ago. Both players have the potential to eliminate one another but are currently having form and confidence issues. Despite this, Arthur Rinderknech has a minor advantage in this all-French fight in New York since he is in better physical shape.
Quentin Halys and Arthur Rinderknech are scheduled to face one another in the first round match of the US Open 2022 on Monday, August 29. The 2022 US Open is all set to begin from August 29 till September 11.
