Pedro Cachin and Alexey Vatutin are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 ATP Gijon Open on October 12.
In these ten months, Pedro Cachin has won almost 50 matches, advanced at least to the second round of both of his great slam tournaments—the French Open (R2, as a qualifier) and the US Open (R3)—but he has yet to win an ATP match in the main draw. In Umag, where he made his sole prior main-draw ATP debut in 2022, he lost a set and a break to eventual semifinalist Giulio Zeppieri in the first round. He last advanced to the second round of an ATP tournament two years ago while playing at home in Cordoba.
In the ATP Gijon qualifying rounds, Alexey Vatutin ended his six-match losing streak by dominating a few Spaniards. In QR1, he gave up seven games to Alberto Barroso Campos, whereas in QR2, he only gave up four to Carlos Taberner. Between 2015 and 2017, the Russian enjoyed a few successful seasons on lower-level circuits. In 2018, he made his tour-level main-draw debut. He didn’t take advantage of the limited opportunities he had on the main tour and hasn’t been in the main draw at this level since 2019.
Pedro Cachin and Alexey Vatutin are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 ATP Gijon Open on Wednesday, October 12. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 10 and end on October 16.
The ATP Gijon Open 2022 will have five rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 10, 2022 and conclude on October 16, 2022.
