On Tuesday in the round of 32 WTA Slovenia open, Jodie Burrage of United Kingdom will face Aleksandra Krunic of Serbia.
Jodie Burrage stunned Stefanie Voegele, a former top-50 player, on Monday to secure her spot in the main draw. She won 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 after trailing by two points. A qualifying loss to Caty McNally in NYC is a good way to forget about her unimpressive finale to the North American swing. In just a few weeks, her rating has decreased by half. The Brit won her first WTA main draw matches by defeating Zhu Lin in Nottingham and Paula Badosa and Petra Martic in Eastbourne. She then surged into the semifinals of W100 Surbiton and W100 Ilkley and W60 Lexington.
As of two weeks ago, Aleksandra Krunic had a 2-8 season win-loss record on hard courts and had not defeated a top 90 player on those courts since September 2019. In Flushing Meadows, she shocked 23rd seed Barbora Krejcikova by making it to the third round. She had advanced to the round of 32 on five occasions at Grand Slams, including four times at the US Open. In addition, it ends the Serb’s season’s shackles to clay courts thanks to a second-place result to Bernarda Pera in Budapest in July (it was her third WTA final and the first in four years).
Jodie Burrage and Aleksandra Krunic are scheduled to face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 WTA Slovenia Open on Tuesday, September 13. The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 12 and end on September 18.
