Alexander Bublik and Jeffrey John Wolf will face each other in the quarterfinal of the 2022 ATP Firenze Open October 14.
For the first time since ATP Newport (runner-up) in July, Alexander Bublik won two matches in a row to advance to the quarterfinal in Florence this week. His path to this point was rather straightforward as he faced the inconsistent Corentin Moutet in the second round and the out-of-sorts Cristian Garin in the first round (7-5 6-2). (7-5 6-4). The big-serving Kazakh prefers to play on faster courts, and this year in indoor competitions, he has a perfect 2-0 record in quarterfinal matches. In both of those seasons, he even made it to the final in Montpellier and Metz, where he defeated Alexander Zverev to win his first ATP title and placed second to Lorenzo Sonego, respectively.
Maxime Cressy, the current ATP Newport winner, has struggled of late, and Jeffrey John Wolf took advantage of that to win in straight sets in this week’s second round. The American managed to generate four breakpoint opportunities and successfully convert two of them, 6-3 6-4, despite the French-12 American’s aces in the two sets. Since breaking into the top 100 of the ATP rankings three months ago, the 23-year-old has been playing with a lot of confidence and belief. A few months ago, in Washington, he competed in the ATP 500 main tour’s quarterfinal round for the first time (and only once), however he was defeated by top seed Andrey Rublev in straight sets.
Alexander Bublik and Jeffrey John Wolf are scheduled to face each other in the quarterfinal of the 2022 ATP Firenze Open on Friday, October 14. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 10 and end on October 16.
