Frances Tiafoe, ranked 29th in the world, will play fellow American Jenson Brooksby, ranked 43rd, in the semifinal of the 2022 ATP Atlanta Open on Sunday.
According to the oddsmakers, there wasn’t much of a difference between Frances Tiafoe and his opponent in the quarterfinals, Brandon Nakashima. By no means did the way the match played out appear to be like that. Due to the fact that Tiafoe eliminated Nakashima in an hour and four minutes, securing just his second ATP semifinal participation of the year. He triumphed 6-4, 6-2 in a methodical performance that had just four break points throughout the entire match. Tiafoe faced just one of them, but he managed to win the other three. This comes after Tiafoe received a bye in the first round and defeated Taro Daniel 7-5, 6-4 in the second. Before the start of this tournament, Tiafoe’s record on hard courts this season was 4-5. He now has a chance to advance to his first ATP hard court final since the Vienna Open last year.
As he overcame a first-set deficit against John Isner to advance to the semifinals, Jenson Brooksby showed that the next 12 months may very well be the ones that transform him into a force to be reckoned with. After defeating his American rival 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, Brooksby, who has reached two ATP finals in the past 12 months, has a chance to advance to his third. The fact that Brooksby held up against 25 aces and broke Isner three times during the match—against a player who owns the active ATP record for holding 92 percent of his service games—made this victory particularly noteworthy. Isner had not dropped his serve that frequently throughout two sets of a match in a long time. Brooksby played for less than two hours after winning his first two matches easily against Benoit Paire and Mackenzie McDonald.
Frances Tiafoe and Jenson Brooksby will take on each other on Sunday, July 31 in the semifinal of the 2022 Atlanta Open. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 25 and conclude on July 31 this year.
