This week in Pune, Benjamin Bonzi has performed better than anyone else. He defeated talented Chun Hsin Tseng in the first round and Emil Ruusuvuori, last year’s finalist, in the second round before defeating former world #26 Filip Krajinovic in the quarterfinal in straight sets. The victory over Emil Ruusuvuori in the second round put an end to the Frenchman’s 10-match losing streak to players ranked in the top-50. On the main tour in 2022, he achieved some impressive results and had his best season to date, but he still struggled against the top-50 competitors (3-19 in 2022).

Maximilian Marterer was defeated by Botic Van De Zandschulp in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, in the ATP Pune quarterfinal. The Dutchman played better than in the second round when he fell behind Flavio Cobolli 2-5 in the first set and 1-4 in the second set (R1 bye). The 2022 season’s only setback for the 27-year-old was failing to claim a championship on the main tour, but he now has a chance to win it all. Marin Cilic, the top seed, is now both the highest-ranked and the only player still in the top-50 in the Pune draw this week.
