Bautista Agut and Paul will take on each other in the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open on January 23.
On January 23, the No. 24 seed from Spain, Roberto Bautista Agut, will play the hot American, Tommy Paul, in the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open. The person who would play the pantomime villain had to be Roberto Bautista Agut. In fact, the player who brutally ended Andy Murray’s 2023 Australian Open campaign was the ATP’s workhorse. This time, it took exactly three and a half hours of action to finish in four sets. Less than 48 hours after playing the longest match of his career to beat Thanasi Kokkinakis, Murray appeared to be out of gas in the opening set. The veteran Spanish player dominated the set in just 29 minutes.
Tommy In an all-American matchup in the third round of the Australian Open, Paul defeated Jenson Brooksby to advance into the second week of a Grand Slam for the second time. Paul defeated Roberto Bautista Agut, the 24th seed, for the fifth time in their series, winning 6-1 6-4 6-3 in two hours and eight minutes. The New Jersey native outperformed fellow countryman Brooksby in a contest that was so disappointing to watch from the perspective of spectacle. Paul wouldn’t care, though. He quickly won the first set 6-1, dropping just one point on serve, and was simply unstoppable from the get-go.
