Roberto Bautista Agut and Marcos Giron are scheduled to face one another in the round of 64 of the 2022 Canadian Open on Tuesday, August 9.
The versatile Roberto Bautista Agut is having another strong season. He has won a hard court title and competed in a team final, finished runner-up in a grass court tournament, and most recently won his 11th ATP title by winning his second clay court tournament of his career in Kitzbuhel. Hard courts have always been the most productive surface for the Spaniard, who also reached the ATP Cup final but was unable to lead Spain to victory as they were defeated by Canada. Another highlight of the 34-year- old season was a runner-up finish on grass in Mallorca. This year, he has a 14-6 record on hard courts and a 9-5 record in Montreal.
No. 53 in the world Marcos Giron qualified for his first Canadian Open main draw appearance. Giron qualified for Montreal with a three-set win over Alexei Popyrin in the second qualifying round on Sunday, capping off an up-and-down season for the American. The 29-year-old blew two match points in the second set tiebreak, allowing the Australian to stay in the match, but he eventually took control of the match in the final set, defeating Popyrin 6-4, 6-7 (10-12), 6-1. Giron’s most notable performances this season include a semifinal appearance in Dallas, quarterfinal appearances in Acapulco and Mallorca, and a run to the Round of 16 in Rome.
