Victoria Azarenka and Coco Gauff are scheduled to face one another in the quarterfinal of the 2022 WTA Guadalajara Open on October 21.
Victoria Azarenka, the World No. 37, will play in only her second quarterfinal of the 2022 season. In what has been a largely disappointing year for the 33-year-old Belarussian, Vika hopes to end on a high note. Her path to the top eight began with a win over Elina Avanesyan in the first round, followed by Paula Badosa and Madison Keys. Azarenka won the match against Badosa thanks to her opponent’s retirement in the second set, while she won the match against Keys 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-1. Victoria’s year-to-date record now stands at 23-12 as a result of these victories. Her career highlights include quarter final appearances in the Citi Open and the Adelaide International, as well as fourth-round finishes in the US Open and Australian Open.
Coco Gauff, 17, of the United States, has qualified for the year-end WTA Finals after an incredible season. The teenager will compete in both singles and doubles in Texas, making her the youngest player to do so since Anna Kournikova in 1999. Gauff’s record now stands at 38-18 after straight-set victories over Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Martina Trevisan in Guadalajara. She will compete in her fifth WTA Tour quarterfinal in the last six tournaments, having reached this stage in San Diego, the US Open, Rogers Cup, and WTA San Jose. Coco also finished second at the French Open. She has three titles and two runner-ups on the doubles circuit, including the Canadian Open, Qatar Open, and French Open.
