Felix Auger-Aliassime and JJ Wolf are scheduled to face each other in the final of the 2022 ATP Firenze Open on October 16.
Auger-Aliassime defeated Brandon Nakashima in straight sets in what turned out to be a fairly straightforward quarterfinal victory. Felix Auger-Aliassime won 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 29 minutes, growing into the match after a slow start. Auger-Aliassime, who needed three sets to beat Oscar Otte in the first round, dropped his serve in the first game of the match but never again. Instead, he broke the San Diego Open champion twice in the first set to take the lead, and then again in the first game of the second set to seal the victory. That was all he needed, as he only lost seven points on his own serve in the second set to carve out the victory.
JJ Wolf needed two hours and 14 minutes, but he was able to secure a semifinal berth for the first time this season. JJ Wolf defeated Alexander Bublik 3-6, 7-5, 6-1, saving three of the four break points he faced in the second set to come out on top in their hard-fought match. Wolf took a 2-0 lead in the second set after losing the first to the only break-point he faced, only to drop his serve in the seventh game. However, he stormed back into the match with a late break of serve as Bublik served to keep the set alive. The third set was much easier for the 75th-ranked player, who won it off his fourth match-point after clinching two more breaks.
JJ Wolf and Felix Auger-Aliassime are scheduled to face each other in the final of the 2022 ATP Firenze Open on Sunday, October 16. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 10 and end on October 16.
