Felix Auger-Aliassime and Oscar Otte are scheduled to face each other in the second round of the 2022 ATP Firenze Open on October 13.
Auger-Aliassime had a strong start to the season, winning his first ATP Tour title and reaching the final in Marseille, where he was defeated by Andrey Rublev. However, the Canadian hasn’t had the same level of consistency since then. In fact, Felix Auger-Aliassime has only won three consecutive matches once in the 18 ATP/Grand Slam tournaments he has competed in since then. This occurred during the French Open, where he advanced to the fourth round. More recently, quarterfinal exits in Montreal and Cincinnati, as well as a second round loss at the US Open, have highlighted some issues for Auger-Aliassime, which appeared to be exacerbated when he was knocked out in the first round at Astana last week.
Despite having only one win in his previous eight matches, Oscar Otte was still a favorite going into his first round match against Marton Fucsovics, thanks to his opponent’s poor form. Given the matchup, it wasn’t surprising that he lost the first set, but Otte held firm, fought back, and won 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the second round. Otto’s only other hardcourt victory since the Miami Masters in March came in the first round of the Sofia Open against the 298th-ranked Dragos Madaras. And now that he’s up against the world number 13, Otte will have to do a lot more than what he did in his opener – and what he’s done since reaching back-to-back semifinals on the grass courts of Stuttgart and Halle.
Felix Auger-Aliassime and Oscar Otte are scheduled to face each other in the second round of the 2022 ATP Firenze Open on Thursday, October 13. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 10 and end on October 16.
