Auher-Aliassime and Lehecka will take on each other in the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open on January 22.
At the Australian Open, Felix Auger Aliassime lost a set once more, but his performance against Francisco Cerundolo in the third round was significantly better than his previous contests with Vasek Pospisil and Alex Molcan. He created 20 breakpoint opportunities on the Argentinean’s serve during the three sets he won, 6-1 3-6 6-1 6-4, and he was rock-solid on serve throughout. The Canadian’s success on the main tour last year seems to have boosted his self-assurance and belief. This is clear from his performance thus far at the Australian Open, where he has shown the ability to handle difficult circumstances—a quality that wasn’t previously connected to him until 2022.
In the third round of the Australian Open, Jiri Lehecka defeated world No. 12 Cameron Norrie in five sets to earn his third top-20 victory of his young career. His previous two victories in the top-20 also came against players in the top-12; the first came in Rotterdam in February of last year against the Canadian Denis Shapovalov. Before arriving in Melbourne, the young Czech player hadn’t won a match in the main draw of a grand slam tournament. However, he is currently in the second week of the Australian Open, ensuring himself a new career-high ranking and sizeable prize money. Having said that, his performance at the ATP Next Gen Finals in November and all four grand slams last year was very positive and demonstrated his development as a player.

The head to head is currently 0-0. Compared to the Canadian, Jiri Lehecka has had a much better start to 2023 and is currently playing very confidently. Felix Auger-Aliassime, a top-10 player, should, however, be expected to win these matches on the big stage; if he does not, it will be his own fault and he will bear sole responsibility.
