Felix Auger-Aliassime and Richard Gasquet will face each other in the semi final round of the 2022 ATP European Open on Saturday, October 22.
Felix Auger-Aliassime advanced to the European Open semifinals after defeating Dan Evans in a two-hour and 41-minute match on Friday. The Canadian dropped the first set after Evans broke him in the third game, but Auger-Aliassime came back to win the second set in a tiebreak. He was in complete control of the final set, breaking the Briton twice to win 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. Auger-Aliassime, who defeated J.J. Wolf in last week’s Florence final, started his Antwerp campaign with a 6-3, 603 thrashing of Manuel Guinard. It’s been the best year of the 22-year-old’s career so far, and a 47-25 record reflects that. On Saturday, Auger-Aliassime will attempt to reach his fourth final of the season.
Richard Gasquet, the 2016 Antwerp champion, is two matches away from claiming his second title in the Belgian city. On Friday, the 36-year-old defeated David Goffin in straight sets to advance to the semifinals. Gasquet was not broken in the quarterfinal match, as he saved all six of Goffin’s break points. In contrast, the Frenchman broke his opponent twice in the first set and won the second set tiebreak in an hour and 54 minutes. Gasquet, a 15-time tour champion, is attempting to reach his 33rd final and first since finishing runner-up in Umag last year. In 2022, he is only the second person on the tour to reach the final four stages.
