On Monday, Canadian Bianca Andreescu will take on Frenchwoman Harmony Tan in the opening round of the 2022 US Open.
Ranked 48th in the world Bianca Andreescu, has had a remarkable year. Following her injury recuperation, she started the season later than expected, but she has made great progress since then. She lost to Aryna Sabalenka in the second round of her debut competition in Stuttgart. She then advanced to the third round in Madrid and the quarterfinals in Rome. Later, the 22-year-old made it to the Bad Homburg final, her first such run since the Miami Open of 2021, where she finished third. While Andreescu searches finding her rhythm permanently, not everything has been wonderful for her. In Wimbledon and San Jose, she lost in the first round, and most recently in Toronto, she advanced to the third round before losing to Qinwen Zheng. Bianca will be confident that she will at the very least get off to a solid start in New York given that she won the 2019 US Open and has an excellent hard-court record.
112 in the world Harmony Tan has never advanced past the first round at Flushing Meadows, and it appears that she won’t do so this year either. Tan, whose current score is 19–20, has come in New York after a string of unsuccessful outings in the American swing. Harmony limited herself to lower-level competition, specifically the Concord and Vancouver Challenger tournaments, where she fell short to Maddison Inglis and Katie Volynets, respectively. When she last competed, it was in Cleveland, where she won the qualifying rounds but lost to Clara Tauson in the first round. Her lone noteworthy performance throughout the season was when she reached the semifinals of the Gaiba Challenger.
Bianca Andreescu and Harmony Tan are scheduled to face one another in the first round match of the US Open 2022 on Monday, August 29. The 2022 US Open is all set to begin from August 29 till September 11.
