So far this season, Bianca Andreescu has prevailed in 12 of 19 matches, with her greatest performance coming at the Bad Homburg Open, when she made the final. Before being granted a bye to the championship match because Simona Halep was suffering from a neck injury, the Canadian overcame Martina Trevisan, Katie Swan, and Daria Kasatkina. Despite winning the first set, the 22-year-old lost to Caroline Garcia in the championship match. After competing at Wimbledon, Andreescu defeated Emina Bektas 6-1, 6-3 to advance to the second round. Elena Rybakina, the eventual champion, defeated her 6-4, 7-6(5).

Shelby Rogers has only triumphed in 12 of the 27 games she has played this year; her best performance was at the Libema Open in’s-Hertogenbosch. The 29-year-old defeated Vitalia Diatchenko, Elena Rybakina, and Kirsten Flipkens to advance to the competition’s semifinals, where she fell to Aryna Sabalenka 7-6(6), 6-0. Before falling in the second round of the Rothesay International in Eastbourne, Rogers was defeated in the first round of the Birmingham Classic. She later participated at Wimbledon but was defeated by Petra Martic in the opening round 6-2, 7-6(5).

Bianca Andreescu and Shelby Rogers will face each other in the first round of the 2022 WTA Silicon Valley Classic on Monday, August 1. The WTA 500 competition is scheduled to start from August 1 and end on August 7 this year.
