Carlos Alcaraz and Botic van de Zandschulp will take on one another in the first round of the 2022 ATP Swiss Indoors on October 26.
Carlos Alcaraz faced off against the extremely talented Jack Draper in round one. The British player won the first set, but Alcaraz came back to win the match with some incredible tennis. It was a good match for him to get back into shape, and he appeared to have reached a really good level by the end. He is familiar with Botic, having played him once and winning easily. Some of that will be required in this one as well, but he should be able to complete it. So far, Alcaraz has had an incredible season, winning several trophies and rising to the top of the rankings.
Botic van de Zanschulp, like Alcaraz, had to play a lengthy three-set match in round one. The only issue for the Dutch player is that he only played it once a day later. All of those aches will be felt by him, but not as much by Alcaraz, who had an extra day of rest. Tennis hasn’t been going well for the Dutch player in recent weeks, as he’s been making a lot more errors than usual. He’s been quite reliable all year, which is one of the reasons he’s 39-26 this year, but it hasn’t been as consistent recently. His serve remains dangerous in these conditions, but it will be difficult for him to outhit Alcaraz from the baseline, which he will need to do in order to win the match.Â
