The 19-year-old, who qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals for the first time, will face Frances Tiafoe in the semi-finals.
Few will soon forget the thrilling quarter-final match between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner at the US Open. Alcaraz defeated Sinner 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-7(0), 7-5, 6-3 in a classic match that broke the record for the latest finish in tournament history when play ended at 2:50 a.m. local time, saving one match point in the fourth set en route to his five-hour, 15-minute victory. The contest was the second-longest in US Open history. The Spaniard survived match point at 4-5 in the fourth set and rallied to keep his ambitions of becoming the youngest World No. 1 in ATP Rankings history alive next Monday. The 19-year-old, who qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals for the first time with the victory, will face Frances Tiafoe in the semi-finals.
Frances Tiafoe used a combination of devastating groundstrokes, excellent serving, and exquisite net play to defeat ninth seed Andrey Rublev 7-6(3), 7-6(0), 6-4 in the US Open quarter-finals on Wednesday. Tiafoe brilliantly channelled the support of an euphoric home crowd under a closed Arthur Ashe Stadium roof in New York, looking to build on his exciting four-set win against Rafael Nadal in the fourth round. The American’s confidence was on full display when he ripped off seven unanswered points in a perfect second-set tie-break, but Tiafoe’s intensity never dropped as he cruised to his maiden Grand Slam semi-final in New York.
Carlos Alcaraz and Frances Tiafoe are scheduled to face each other on Saturday, September 10 in the semi-final of the 2022 US Open. The fourth and final Grand Slam of the season began on August 29 and will go on until September 11.
