Roberto Bautista Agut and Laslo Djere are scheduled to face one another in the first round of the 2022 ATP Vienna Open on October 25.
Roberto Bautista Agut is currently on a losing streak, having lost his last three matches. The Spaniard is a fairly solid indoor player who has made some finals in those conditions. His most recent victory was over Pavel Kotov in Astana. He was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Daniil Medvedev, and his next two performances were losses. The first was to Korda in Gijon, followed by McDonald in Antwerp. While not shocking, those losses indicated that Od’s form had dipped slightly in recent weeks, which Djere can take advantage of. Bautista’s game isn’t ideal for indoors, but he’s adequate. Precise groundstrokes help him wear down his opponents before delivering the knockout blow.
Laslo Djere had to compete in qualifiers in order to enter the Basel main draw. He passed the test with flying colors, winning two close matches in three sets. The draw was not kind to him, as he was paired with a player who defeated him the only time they met. Nonetheless, the Serbian will have something to offer here, particularly if his serve is on point. Because the forehand is solid but a prototypical clay forehand that works best on that surface, it is his best weapon in these conditions. I don’t think he’ll win, but he’ll make this match interesting. His overall career record indoors is 26-38, indicating that he performs best away from conditions like this, but having already won two matches this week should give him some confidence heading into this difficult matchup.
