The 2023 World Table Tennis Championships will be the 57th edition of the World Table Tennis Championships and held in Durban, South Africa. It will be the first such event set to be held in Africa since the 1939 Championship held in Egypt. South Africa was chosen as the host after defeating Dusseldorf (Germany) by 90 to 39 votes. The tournament will be played over nine days. A total of 306 players from 59 nations will be participating in this event. China, Germany, Japan, and South Korea have a maximum of five players for each singles event and four players for each doubles event.
Commonwealth Games champion Sharath Kamal and India’s top women’s player Manika Batra will spearhead the Indian challenge at the World Table Tennis Championships Finals 2023 in Durban, South Africa from the 20th of May. The Indian table tennis team comprises 11 players. Sharath Kamal will lead the five-member men’s team which includes Olympian Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and members of the Asian Games 2018 bronze-medal winning team Manav Thakkar and Harmeet Desai. Additionally, Manish Shah has also made it to the team. The experienced duo of Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Sharath Kamal will combine for the men’s doubles competition. In the women’s competition, the onus will be on world No. 39 Manika Batra to deliver for India. She will team up with Archana Kamath in women’s doubles. Apart from Batra, National champion Sreeja Akula, Olympian Sutirtha Mukherjee and Reeth Tennison will also enter the fray for India.

The 2023 World Table Tennis Championships will commence on May 20 and end on May 28.
