Central defender Kalidou Koulibaly’s contract  renewal talks with Napoli are reportedly going well following the club’s latest offer. The 30-year-old is a pivotal part of Luciano Spalletti’s side and is expected to take on the captain’s armband once Lorenzo Insigne leaves for Canada. Meanwhile he led Senegal to African Cup of Nations glory on Sunday. The West African nations overcame Egypt on penalties to lift the trophy.

As reported by Rai Sport, Napoli want to renew his contract, which currently expires in 2023, and they have offered Koulibaly a four-year deal worth EUR 5 million net per season, which currently doesn’t include any add-ons yet.

Further talks will be needed to finalise a deal, with the biggest risk coming from Premier League and Bundesliga clubs, who are reportedly offering close to EUR 7 million per season, but Napoli are counting on the strong relationship between Koulibaly and the club to close out the deal.

The 30-year-old joined Napoli in 2014 from KRC Genk and he has made 19 appearances in all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1687 minutes. In that time he has scored two goals, registered two assists and helped his side keep ten clean sheets.

Napoli are currently placed second in the points table with 54 points from 24 games, just one point behind leaders Inter Milan, who have a game in hand. Koulibaly’s return from international duty will once again provide the much needed defensive stability to Spalletti’s side in the upcoming fixtures and make them strong contenders for the Scudetto title.
