Anish Kumar Giri is a chess prodigy and a Dutch chess grandmaster who is a five-time Dutch champion (2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2023). Giri started his chess career under the tutelage of his mother at the age of six. Anish showed tremendous promise as a young talent and kept getting stronger. Subsequently, by the age of 11, he was rated over 2100. Giri’s first club was DYUSH-2, a local youth sports team in Saint Petersburg. During his time at DYUSH, Andrei Praslov and Asya Kovalyova served as his trainers. Subsequently, he moved to Japan where he trained at the Sapporo Chess Club and the Japan Chess Association. He took home the Sapporo Chess Championship in 2004. Giri won the Saint Petersburg Boys Under 16s. Subsequently, he finished third in the Under 18s competition.

The most momentous time for Anish’s career has to be the point when he defeated another maestro of the game, Magnus Carlsen. In his free time, he spends time with his family and his children. Additionally, he has also been seen tutoring his sons about the intricate details of chess.
