WTT Singapore Smash: Sharath Kamal ends his dream run in Singapore

The journey of Sharath Kamal ended in the quarterfinals of the Singapore Smash 2024 as he lost to Felix Lebrun.

Sharath lost 1-4 (9-11, 2-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8) to world no.6 Felix Lebrun of France in an interesting match in the quarterfinals. The dream of veteran Indian table tennis player Sharath ended with this match. As compared to other tournaments WTT Singapore Smash 2024 was the best tournament for Sharath Kamal.

The game started with Felix scoring straight 3 points and maintaining a steady lead. Sharath somehow made the score equal to 9 but Felix got the match. In a match where the score was 0-3, Sarath managed to win one game with some inspired strokes, but the world no.6 Felix Lebrun ultimately emerged victorious by winning the fourth game and the match with a 10-6 lead in 31 minutes.

Prior to this match, Sharath defeated Omar Assar of Egypt (World No. 22), Darko Jorgic of Slovenia (World No. 13), and Nicolas Burgos of Chile (World No. 51) in the first three rounds of the main draw to qualify in the Quarterfinals.

Sharath is expected to break into the world’s top 40 rankings soon. He currently holds a world rank of 88. Achieving this milestone could greatly enhance the Indian veteran table tennis player’s chances of qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Despite the setback in the Quarterfinals of the Singapore Smash 2024, Kamal refuses to let defeat get the best of him. Instead, he is now more determined than ever to come back stronger and qualify at the 2024 Paris Olympics. After all, the Olympics are at the top of Sharath’s priority list.
