Robert Lewandowski wants to join FC Barcelona according to reports. The striker’s current contract with Bayern Munich expires in June 2023, which could force the German club to offload him before next season so as not to lose their second all-time top scorer on a free transfer. He is in his eighth year with the Bavarians and 12th in Germany. Barcelona are interested in signing the reigning two-time FIFA The Best winner in this summer transfer window.

According to SPORT, the Catalan club will offer Lewandowski a four-year contract until 2026. The 33-year-old is one of the fittest players in world football right now and Barca believes that his professionalism and disciplined lifestyle will help him perform at the top level for a few more years. Barca president Juan Laporta has a strong relationship with the player’s agent Pini Zahivi and that makes them the front-runners to get his signature.

Lewandowski joined Bayern Munich in 2014 and moved to Germany in 2010, when he signed for Borussia Dortmund from Lech Poznan. He has scored a stunning 396 goals for both the German clubs in all competitions and now wants a new challenge in the final years of his career.

The report also states that the Polish striker wanted to move before, but circumstances never allowed it, especially for a top European club. A deal would have been too much in the past, especially once COVID-19 hit clubs accounts, but things have changed now.

Barcelona are currently going through a rebuilding phase after a difficult start to the season that saw the replacement of head coach Ronald Koeman with Xavi Hernandez. The Spanish tactician has successfully rejuvenated Barca, helping them to the third spot in the La La standings.

Barca are currently in superb form having won their last five league games, and that includes a 4-0 thrashing of Real Madrid in the El Clasico on Sunday. Xavi made a number of clever signings in the January transfer window and the new arrivals have made a huge difference in the clubs fortunes.

Dani Alves, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ferran Torres and Adama Traore joined the Blaugrana in the winter transfer window. Striker Aubameyang has been in stunning form having found the back of the net 11 times in 10 appearances for the club across all competitions.
