Robert Lewandowski crowned FIFA Best Men's Player ahead of Messi and Salah

The 33-year-old Polish forward retained his FIFA The Best award following an incredible campaign in which he scored a Bundesliga record 41 goals.

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski won the FIFA Best Men’s Player award for 2021 ahead of Lionel Messi and Mohamed Salah at Monday’s ceremony in Dubai. Meanwhile Barcelona midfielder Alexia Putellas won the FIFA Best Women’s player prize. It was Lewandowski’s second FIFA Best award and he has now equaled Cristiano Ronaldo’s record. The 33-year-old Polish forward retained his FIFIA The Best award following an incredible campaign in which he scored a Bundesliga record 41 goals. Meanwhile Ronaldo has been awarded the ‘FIFA Special The Best Award.’

Paris Saint-Germain forward Messi, who had won the 2021 Ballon d’Or award, finished second while Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in third place. Messi led Argentina to the 2021 Copa America triumph by defeating Brazil 1-0 in the final at Maracana.

Thomas Tuchel, who led Chelsea to Champions League triumph in 2021, beat Italy’s Roberto Mancini and Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola to win the Manager of the year award. Meanwhile Chelsea swept the coaching awards in a year when its men’s and women’s teams reached Champions League finals.

Putellas captained Barcelona to its first Women’s Champions League title and won the award ahead of teammate Jennifer Hermoso and Sam Kerr of beaten finalist Chelsea.

Chelsea boss Emma Hayes won the coaching award for women’s soccer ahead of Lluis Cortes. Her Barcelona team beat Chelsea 4-0 in the champions League final.

Chelsea and Senegal’s Edouard Mendy won the Men’s Goalkeeper of the year award ahead of Italy’s Gianluigi Donnarumma and Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer. Meanwhile Chile’s Christiane Endler, who moved from PSG to Lyon in the off season won the FIFA Best Women’s Goalkeeper of the year award. Sevilla forward Erik Lamela won the Puskas Award for his “Rabona” for Tottenham Hotspur against Arsenal.

Denmark team and staff won the Fair Play award following their reaction to Christian Eriksen’s cardiac arrest at Euro 2020. Denmark and Finland fan’s also received the Best Fan award for their spontaneous support of Eriksen after he was taken off the pitch.
