According to a report by Footballitalia, Barcelona are interested in Juventus midfielder Paulo Dybala and have made preliminary contact with the player’s agent ahead of a possible free move in the summer. The Argentine playmaker will not be signing a contract renewal with the Turin club, meaning that his seven-year association with the Bianconeri will be drawing to a close in June. The Argentina international has grown into one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe since moving to Turin in 2015.

Although talks over a contract extension were held, an agreement wasn’t finalised and the report claims that the Argentine footballer is free to find another club. This season, he has made 29 appearances in all competitions so far, scoring 13 times and registering six assists.

Dybala joined Juve from Palermo in 2015 and since then has become a vital player for them, scoring 99 goals and registering 42 assists in all competitions. The 28-year- old tasted great success in his early years with Juventus but he did fall off the radar for a season or two when he was used out of position.

Barcelona are currently looking to strengthen their midfield and Dybala is a highly rated playmaker who will be available for free in the summer. The Blaugrana are currently going through a rebuilding process under head coach Xavi and have made big strides off late.

After a poor start to the campaign, Barcelona have revitalized themselves to rise to third spot in the La Liga standings, winning all of their last five league games, including a 4-0 thrashing of leaders Real Madrid on Sunday.

Barca’s midfield trio of Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Sergi Busquets have been very impressive but Xavi is looking to add more quality options to his squad. Dybala is a proven player and he could very well fit into Xavi’s plans.

The 28-year-old mostly prefers to play on the right side of midfield. He has the ability to deliver quality attacking passes to the forwards, moreover he also has a sweet left foot. Meanwhile it could also be a great option for Dybala, to play under one of the greatest midfielder world has seen.
