Barcelona forward Ferran Torres is slowly finding his feet under Xavis’ system and he is optimistic about finding goal-scoring form in the future. The Spaniard joined the Catalan club from Manchester City in the January transfer window. He arrived with an injury issue and had to wait for a while to make his Barca debut. But the Spaniard has made a bright start to his career with the Blaugrana, scoring one and setting up two in his first three games. In total, the former Valencia player has registered two goals and three assists in his nine appearances for the Catalan club.

He had an impressive game for Barca in the 4-0 La liga win over Athletic Club last Sunday. Although he didn’t get on the score-sheet his off the ball movements created space for the fellow attackers.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, he said: “The goals will come. I’m calm. When one of them goes in, they will all start to go in. I have to be positive.”

When asked about the pressure of playing for Barcelona and the added burden of his price tag, the forward said: “It’s true that playing for Barça comes with a lot of pressure. But you have to play every match and training session like it is something natural.

“I hadn’t even thought about what the club paid for me, it’s football. I play without pressure and for fun.”

Torres is a versatile player who can play at the flanks and also as a central striker. At present, he is playing on the left side of Barca’s three-man attack consisting of Adama Traore on the right and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang down the center. Torres likes to cut inside from the left and get inside, often creating space for left-back Jordi Alba to get into good attacking positions.

“It’s true that I was playing more as a striker at City when I signed for Barça. I can play in any position of the frontline, but I feel the most comfortable as a winger. Right now, I’m playing as a winger in a 4-3-3, which I had already done at City too,” he said.

We’re turning around the situation: Torres

Barcelona are currently in superb form after a disastrous start to the season, having won their last three games in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and conceding just three.

The new look front three which was assembled in the winter transfer window has been linking up pretty well, giving positive results to Xavi’s side. Aubameyang has scored five goals in his last three games and Traore has been exceptional with his pace and physical prowess down the right flank.

Discussing the ambitions of the team, the Spaniard added: “We are a very young team with some veterans around. We are Barça, and we’re turning around the situation. We’re hoping to take a step forward and do good things.”
