Rajasthan Royals slumped to third consecutive loss in the Indian Premier League 2022 on Monday with their defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets. Their losing streak will be concerning as the franchise are at the fifth spot in the points table in the crunch race to the IPL 2022 playoffs and there are multiple areas of concern for the franchise.

Batting first, the Rajasthan franchise, managed to put up 152/5 runs on board with the orange cap holder and their opener Jos Buttler (22), captain Sanju Samson (54) and Shimron Hetmyer (27 not out) among the major contributors with the bat while among the bowlers the fast bowling trio of Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Sen scalped a wicket each.

Rajasthan Royals: Sanju Samson highlights batting woes

Buttler has been the highest run contributor for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2022 so far. He has taken the burden of scoring runs for the franchise which has depth in the line-up but failed to click as a unit. His captain Samson believes that they fell around 20 runs short in the match even though the bowlers tried to pull off a fightback with their great effort. “The wicket was a bit slow, but they also bowled really well but with the kind of batting we had, would have liked a few more boundaries at the end and finish off a bit better. I think we were short by 15-20 runs. It’s a great effort (with the ball), we showed some real fight in the game and the energy was really amazing.

“Personally, we should have batted a bit more better. Of course, win the next toss for sure. We have to keep on assessing the game and who is batting with you, wickets at the wrong time stopped myself to keep on going with the momentum. Wanted to build up the partnership and when I wanted to go hard I think they bowled really well and we couldn’t execute our shots,” Samson concluded.
