The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 got underway on March 26, Saturday, with the inaugural fixture between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
A total number of 70 league matches and four Playoff games will be played in the duration of 65 days. All the matches will be played in Mumbai and Pune with the iconic Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium holding 20 matches each while Brabourne and MCA International stadium, Pune, playing host to 15 fixtures each.
The lucrative tournament has become the most successful T20 franchise league around the world. It not only gives a chance to youngsters to showcase their talents but also to the veterans to continue to be a part of the game even after their retirement.
The IPL has also seen bowlers from across the world showcase their talents and prove themselves to be a handful even though the shortest format remains richly dominated by the batters. It has also been a run-scoring fest over the years due to its format and combination of the franchises which helps them to pile up big totals.
The president for the governing body for the lucrative tournament, Sourav Ganguly, announced that the IPL 2022 final will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 29.
The stadium will also host the second play-off on May 27 while the other two knockout stage games will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on May 24 and 26.
“As far as the men’s IPL knock-out stage matches are concerned, it would be held in Kolkata and Ahmedabad, with hundred percent attendance allowed for the matches to be played after the league staged finishes on May 22,” Ganguly said after a BCCI apex council meeting of the board on Saturday.
