Cameo knocks but no resilience from DC

Chasing a challenging total, DC openers Prithvi Shaw (37) and David Warner (28), forged a 43-run stand for the opening wicket but failed to convert their starts into a match-winning knock. Shaw hit five boundaries and one six in his 27-ball knock with Warner smashed five fours and one hit over the top in his stay of 14 deliveries.

Later, Sarfaraz Khan (1), failed to add much with the bat with Rishabh Pant (44) and Lalit Yadav (37) chipping in with cameo knocks but failed to show resilience under pressure.

West Indies power-hitter Rovman Powell, then, tried to take Delhi Capitals over the line with his 36-run cameo off 15 deliveries but failed in his attempt as his side needed 36 runs off six deliveries.

Prasidh Krishna shines with the ball

Krishna bowled economically to pile on more misery on the DC batters and return figures of 3/22 in his stipulated four overs. His senior spin bowling compatriot Ravichandran Ashwin picked up two wickets.

Jos Buttler-Devdutt Padikkal forger strong opening stand

Earlier, English opener Jos Buttler (116) put up an exhibition of one of the finest T20 knocks on show to guide RR to 222/2.

Asked to bat, Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal (54), made merry of the Delhi Capitals bowlers to forge an opening stand of 155 runs. It was an all guns blazing approach from both the ends with the left-handed batter hitting seven boundaries and two sixes in his 35-ball knock.

Sanju Samson fires for RR

Buttler, meanwhile, continued the onslaught and was later, helped on, by captain Sanju Samson (46 not out) who made his intentions clear from the word go as he smashed five boundaries and three sixes in his unbeaten 19-ball cameo and batted at an astonishing strike rate of 242.11.

The Englishman, on the other hand, hit nine boundaries and as many sixes in his 65-ball knock.

Delhi Capitals toil hard for wickets

Delhi Capitals bowlers toiled hard for wickets but leaked runs in abundance.

Fast bowlers Khaleel Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman, who picked up a wicket each, also conceded more than 10 runs per over.
