Prolific India top-order batter Suryakumar Yadav has handed Mumbai Indians a major boost ahead of their IPL 2022 opener against Delhi Capitals on Sunday as he is set to enter the bio-bubble on Saturday evening. There were large speculations over Suryakumar Yadav’s availability for Mumbai Indians opening contest as he picked up a thumb injury during the final T20I of a three-match series against the West Indies last month following which he went to the National Cricket Academy to start his rehabilitation.

However, it is understood that, Suryakumar Yadav will be serving his mandatory three-day quarantine after joining the Mumbai Indians camp and will not be available for the opening fixture. He is expected to feature for Mumbai Indians in their second fixture against Rajasthan Royals on April 2.

His teammate and India opener Ishan Kishan was seen welcoming him in a cryptic video message which was shared by the official twitter handle of Mumbai Indians.

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma ‘unsure’ of Suryakumar Yadav availability for opener

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma had earlier said that he is unsure of Suryakumar Yadav’s availability for their opening fixture. Yadav has been a vital player for the Mumbai franchise and was the second highest run-getter for them in the previous edition.

“Surya is at NCA at the moment, he is recovering well, he will be here soon and I can’t give you his availability now, whether he will be available for first game or not, but we are trying to get him as soon as possible, once we have the clearance from the NCA,” said Rohit at the press conference.

However, the IPL 2022, will remain a huge chance for Yadav to cement his spot for Team India ahead of the crucial T20 World Cup starting in October.
