The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 will set its tone with defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) challenging the runners-up of last season Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the inaugural contest at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday. It will be an opportunity for both the franchises to have a look at their newly built unit at the IPL mega auction and set the combination right for the upcoming matches. It will, however, be interesting to see how the new-look CSK franchise perform under their new skipper Ravindra Jadeja. The Chennai-franchise will be highly dependent on their prolific opener Ruturaj Gaikwad to give them a head start but will be missing out on the services of all-rounder Mooen Ali who arrived in India only on Thursday after a late clearance of visa. Ambati Rayudu and Dwayne Bravo, meanwhile, will be crucial in the middle-order alongside Jadeja but their former skipper MS Dhoni’s form will still remain a cause of concern. In the pace department, India’s U-19 World Cup star Rajavardhan Hangargekar could be handed his CSK cap while Chris Jordan will be expected to bring in his T20 experience to the play.

KKR, on the other hand, will look to make a strong start to their IPL 2022 season under the captaincy of inform Shreyas Iyer. All-rounder Venkatesh Iyer could be seen opening the batting for the knights while mystery spinner Sunil Narine can be used as floater in the batting line-up. The Kolkata-franchise will also bank on their spin twins Mohammad Nabi and Varun Chakravarthy to provide breakthroughs at regular intervals of time.
