Lamine Yamal, born on July 13, 2007, is a Spanish professional football player who plays as a right winger for Barcelona and Spain national team. Born in Esplugues de Llobregat, Barcelona, Spain, Yamal has a Moroccan father and an Equatorial Guinean mother and spent most of his early years in Barcelona. Having come up through the ranks of La Masia, Yamal quickly gained recognition as one of their most promising talents. He was even promoted to the Juvenil A team, a level above his age group, for the 2022–23 season. Barcelona’s head coach Xavi selected Yamal to train with the senior squad, alongside other young prospects. Despite not yet signing his first professional contract with the club, he stood out as one of the most impressive academy players in the eyes of the Catalan coach.

Yamal made his debut for the first team on April 29, 2023, when he replaced Gavi in the 83rd minute during a 4–0 victory over Real Betis in La Liga. He became the youngest player to ever appear for Barcelona’s first team at the age of 15 years. He also won his first title with Barcelona as part of the squad that clinched the 2022–23 La Liga title. Yamal earned his first start for Barcelona on August 20, 2023, in a 2–0 victory over Cádiz at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, becoming the youngest player to start for Barcelona in a La Liga match at the age of 16 years and 38 days. His performance was met with a standing ovation from the fans when he was substituted. He also set a new record as the youngest player to provide an assist in a La Liga game.

In 2023, Yamal represented Spain’s U17 team in the 2023 European U17 Championship, where he scored 4 goals during the tournament. Yamal received his first call-up to the senior Spain national team under coach Luis de la Fuente for the 2024 Euros qualifiers against Georgia and Cyprus. He made his senior debut for Spain against Georgia on September 8, 2023, scoring a goal in the 74th minute during a 7–1 victory. At 16 years and 57 days old, he became the youngest player and goalscorer in the history of the Spain national team, breaking both of Gavi’s previous records. Additionally, Yamal became the youngest goalscorer in a European Championship qualifying match, surpassing Gareth Bale’s previous record of 17 years and 83 days old.
