Saint Kitts and Nevis are set to make their CONCACAF Gold Cup debut when they take on their Caribbean rivals Trinidad & Tobago in a Group A fixture at DRV PNK stadium in Florida on Sunday. The Soca Warriors earned a spot in the continental competition following Nicaragua’s disqualification for fielding an ineligible player at the Nations League. Saint Kitts, meanwhile, booked their place in the finals of this tournament for the first time ever by defeating French Guiana in a one-game qualification fixture, 4-2 on penalties.

Trinidad & Tobago are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over Guatemala in a friendly on June 11. The result extended their unbeaten run to six games across all competitions, while recording four wins and not conceding a single goal in the period. Meanwhile, the Soca Warriors are set to make their 12th appearance at this competition, while they will be seeking to secure their first opening match triumph at the group stage since 2015. That was the last time Trinidad & Tobago made it to the knockout stage of this competition.

Saint Kitts, on the other hand, are also heading into the match on the back of a some solid performances, having won five of their last six matches in all competitions. The Sugar Boyz had an impressive CONCACAF Nations League campaign, finishing on top of Group B in League C, recording three wins and a draw from four fixtures. Austin Huggins’ side have proved to be a well-balanced attacking unit, as their nine Nations League goals were scored by eight different players. Last Tuesday, Tiquanny Williams’ 41st-minute effort gave the lead to Saint Kitts against French Guiana in the one off Gold Cup qualifying playoff, but Arnold Abelniti leveled the score from the penalty spot nine minutes into the second half and forced the game into the extra time and thereby penalties, where Saint Kitts prevailed 4-2.
