Toulouse began their Europa League campaign with a 1-1 draw away to Union SG, before getting the better of LASK 1-0 in the second game week on October 5. Gabriel Suazo’s 31st-minute effort helped the Ligue 1 outfit secure all three points against Austrian club, but since then the City of Violets have gone on a five game winless run across all competitions, losing three successive matches in the process. Carlos Martinez’s men suffered a fourth league defeat of the season against Le Havre last time out despite taking the lead through Thijs Dallinga’s 49th-minute opener. With just 11 points taken from as many games, Toulouse are languishing at the 14th spot in the French top flight standings.
Liverpool, on the other hand, have secured comprehensive victories against the likes of LASK, Union SG and Toulouse in their three European games so far, with an aggregate scoreline of 10-2. The Reds are heading into the match on the back of a seven game unbeaten run in all competitions, recording five victories in the period. Klopp’s men came from behind to earn a dramatic 1-1 draw away to Luton Town in the Premier League at the weekend, thanks to Luis Diaz’s equaliser five minutes into the injury time. Liverpool are currently occupying third spot in the English top flight standings, having taken 24 points from their first 11 league games, just three adrift of leaders Tottenham Hotspur.
