Manchester United produced arguably their best performance of the season during the 2-1 win over Chelsea in the Premier League. It was a game of massive importance for the Red Devils due to various reasons. United’s start to the season has not been good enough and the team has slipped up in quite a few matches. They are out of the Carabao Cup and are on the brink of elimination from the Champions League group stage.

The club’s form in the Premier League has neither been impressive, however, their run of results in the league has been improving of late. Having said that Manchester United suffered a 1-0 loss to Newcastle last weekend. More than the result, the team’s performance in that game was massively criticised by many. In such circumstances, United produced a brilliant display to get past Chelsea 2-1 in mid-week. One of the stars of the match, Sofyan Amrabat, has spoken about his start to the season after joining the club on loan from Fiorentina in the summer.

“I’m happy because we won the game, but I am team player most importantly and I try to help the team. It is normal that my start was a bit difficult because I did not have the pre-season. First of all I don’t like to give excuses, but I didn’t get a pre-season so that is always difficult for every player I think, coming back from injury. Normally you need time to adapt but there was no time, the team needed me, so I had to jump in immediately. I am a fighter and I will play wherever the manager needs me,” he told MUTV.

Sofyan Amrabat on Scott McTominay

The Morocco international was full of praise for Scott McTominay, who scored twice against Chelsea, and joked that his midfielder partner could play as a striker. “Maybe he will have to change jobs and play as a striker. We [obviously] have fantastic strikers like Rasmus [Hojlund], Antony, [Anthony] Martial. It is clear that Scott is very important as he scored two goals. What else do I have to say, he was fantastic!” he explained.

After a run of away games, Man United have some important games coming up at home. Following the Chelsea win, they next face Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Saturday. Speaking about the home support, Amrabat said, “[It was] fantastic. We have amazing fans and they are the best. They push us from the first minute to the last second and they help us with the way we want to play, with a lot of intensity, high pressing, a lot of intensity. That is the way at United and hopefully we can continue like this.”
