Two Championship sides will go head-to-head for the second time in the space of less than a week as Sheffield Wednesday play host to Coventry City in an FA Cup fourth round tie at Hillsborough. The visitors secured a 2-1 win in South Yorkshire to complete a second tier double over the Owls at the weekend thanks to Ben Sheaf’s brace, while the hosts pulled one back through Josh Windass. The victory helped the Sky Blues to move to sixth spot in the Championship standings, having collected 43 points from 28 games, while the hosts are languishing at the 23rd position, with 22 points to their name, five adrift of safety.

Sheffield Wednesday thrashed Cardiff City 4-0 in the FA Cup third round tie earlier this month thanks to one effort each from Josh Windass, Liam Palmer and Mallik Wilks, and Romaine Sawyers’ own goal. However, after that, the Owls suffered back-to-back defeats in the Championship, against the likes of Southampton and Coventry with an aggregate scoreline of 6-1. Danny Rohl’s side will now turn their focus to FA Cup on Friday and bid to advance to the round of 16 for the first time since the 2019-20 season.
Coventry, on the other hand, are heading into the match on the back of ten game unbeaten run in all competitions, recording seven wins in the process. Mark Robins’ men began 2024 with 3-1 league success over Middlesbrough, before thrashing Oxford United 6-2 in the FA Cup third round tie on January 6. And then, the Sky Blues came from behind to defeat second tier leaders Leicester City 3-1 courtesy of Callum O’Hare’s 79th-minute equaliser, Milan Van Ewijk’s 88th-minute effort, and O’Hare’s second of the night four minutes into the injury time. Robins’ men secured their fourth successive victory against Friday’s opponents in the second tier on Saturday and thereby moved two points clear of eighth-placed Norwich City, who are on 41 points from 29 Championship games.
