Two sides bidding to secure a third successive victory in Group G of the Europa League will be up against each other on Thursday as Roma play host to Slavia Prague at Stadio Olimpico. The hosts secured a dominant 4-0 victory over Servette on matchday two earlier this month, while the Slavists thrashed Sheriff Tiraspol 6-0 in their second group match of the continental campaign. Meanwhile, both sides are heading into the match on the back of league-wins at the weekend, with the Wolves edging past Monza 1-0 in the Serie A, while the visitors secured a 2-0 Czech top flight success over Slovacko.

Last season’s Europa League runner-ups, Roma kicked off their 2023-24 continental campaign with a 2-1 win away to Sheriff Tiraspol last month. And then, Little Cubs put four goals past Servette without reply in their second Group G fixture on October 5 thanks to Andrea Belotti’s brace and one goal each from Romelu Lukaku and Lorenzo Pellegrini. After that, Jose Mourinho’s men went into the international break with a 4-1 league-win over Cagliari. Meanwhile, the Wolves got the better of Monza in the Italian top flight on Sunday through Stephan El Shaarawy’s lone goal one minute from time. It was their fourth consecutive victory across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and conceding just once in the period. The Yellow and Reds are currently seventh spot in the Italian top flight standings, having collected 14 points from nine league games.

Slavia Prague, on the other hand, reached the group stage of Europe’s second tier club competitions via the qualification playoffs. But the Czech outfit have been brilliant in their two group-games so far, scoring eight goals and conceding none. The Slavists put six goals past Sheriff Tiraspol without reply on matchday two courtesy of Mojmir Chytil’s brace, one goal each from Igoh Ogbu, Ivan Schranz and David Doudera and Munashe Garananga’s own goal. The Red and Whites followed it up with back-to-back Czech top flight wins over Liberec and Slovacko, extending their unbeaten run to nine games in all competitions, recording seven wins in the process. JindrichTrpisovsky’s men are currently sitting at the second spot in the Czech First League standings, with 30 points to their name from 12 league games, just two points adrift of the summit.
