Relegation-threatened Real Valladolid will host champions Barcelona in a La Liga fixture at Jose Zorrilla on Tuesday night. The hosts are currently languishing at the 18th spot in the Spanish top flight standings, having collected 35 points from as many games, level on points with 17th-placed Getafe, who are on the edge of the safe zone. Blaugrana, meanwhile ,are comfortably sitting at the summit of the table, with 85 points to their name, 13 clear of second-placed Real Madrid. Xavi’s side, who have already won the title, suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat to Real Sociedad on Saturday, while Valladolid lost 2-0 away to fellow strugglers Cadiz on Friday.

Valladolid dropped into the relegation zone on Saturday when Getafe picked up a point against Elche. The white and Violets have lost each of their last five games in Spain’s top flight, conceding 14 goals and scoring only four in the period. Last time out, Paulo Pezzolano’s side suffered their 20th league-defeat of the season against 16th-placed Cadiz courtesy of Theo Bongonda’s second-half brace. Valladolid have won ten La Liga-matches this season and their last success came against Girona almost a month ago. Pezzolano’s men will take on Almeria (A) and Getafe (H) in their final two league-games of the campaign. Meanwhile, Pucelas have the fourth-worst home-record in La Liga this season, only picking up 24 points from a possible 51.

Barcelona, on the other hand, lifted the La Liga title on Saturday evening after securing the championship on May 14. Xavi’s side would have liked to take all three points against the White-Blues but were outplayed by Imanol Alguacil’s men at Camp Nou, and were handed their fourth league-defeat of the season and first one in front of their own supporters. Mikel Merino and Alexander Sorloth put Real Sociedad 2-0 up before Robert Lewandowski halved the deficit for Blaugrana. Meanwhile, the Catalonia outfit have the best away-record in Spain’s top flight this season, picking up 40 points from their 17 matches on the road.
