Betis are heading into the match on the back of a goalless draw against Valladolid last Saturday. Manuel Pellegrini’s side played the majority of the match with a man less, after German Pezzella received a red card ten minutes before the break, but still managed to earn a point. The Heliopolitans are currently occupying fifth position in the Spanish top flight standings, having pocketed 16 points from eight games. Meanwhile, in the European stage, the La Liga outfit have won all of their three group matches thus far, against the likes of HJK Helsinki (2-0), Ludogorets (3-2) and Roma.
Roma, on the other hand, started off their European campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Ludogorets before getting the better of HJK (3-0), and then lost out to Betis. Meanwhile, in the domestic circuit, the Yellow and Reds have pocketed 19 points from six games to be sitting at the sixth position in the Serie A standings. Last time out, Jose Lourinho’s side got the better of Lecce 2-1 in a league match, courtesy of goals from Chris Smalling and Paulo Dybala. It was Roma’s sixth league-win of the campaign.
Betis playmaker Nebil Fekir was forced off with a hamstring injury in the 2-1 win over Roma last week and the Frenchman is likely to be sidelined for at least a month. Juanmi is also unavailable for Thursday’s game because of an ankle issue. Iglesias is expected to lead the line with Henrique, Canales and Rodri in support. As for Roma, Dybala suffered a thigh injury against Lecce and faces a race against time to be fit for the World Cup. Meanwhile the likes of Zeki Celik, Rick Karsdrop and Georginio Wijnaldum are also occupying the medical room.
