Paris Saint-Germain will begin their preparations for the 2023-24 season with a pre-season friendly against Le Havre at Campus PSG on Friday. Both sides won their respective league titles last season, with the hosts securing the Ligue 1 trophy, while Le Club Doyen were crowned the Ligue 2 champions and thereby will compete in the upcoming French top flight campaign. Meanwhile, the exhibition match will present Luis Enrique’s inauguration as PSG’s new boss before the capital giants embark on a tour of Japan and South Korea in the next couple of weeks.

PSG continued their domestic dominance, clinching a 11th consecutive Ligue 1 title by collecting 85 points from 38 games, just a solitary point clear of second-placed Lens. However, the Parisians failed to get beyond the last-16 stage in the Champions League, losing out to Bayern Munich in the two-legged tie. The poor returns in the continental competition probably led to the sacking of Christopher Galtier and appointment of Champions League winner Enrique at the helm. The treble-winning tactician with Barcelona will not have the services of Lionel Messi, who has left the club to join Inter Miami, while Kylian Mbappe has refused to extend his contract and the Frenchman is linked with some of the top clubs in Europe. After the game against Le Havre, the Parisians will take on Al-Nassr in Japan on July 25, Cerezo Osaka (July28), Inter Milan (August 1) and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors (August 3) in their Asian tour.

Le Havre, on the other hand, secured the 2022-23 Ligue 2 title courtesy of collecting 75 points from 38 games, just three points clear of the chasing pack. The Dean Club are back in the Ligue 1 after a gap of 15 years. Luka Elsner’s men have already begun their pre-season, getting the better of Triglav (9-2) and Caen (3-1) earlier this month. Les Ciel et Marine defeated Caen on Tuesday thanks to goals from Steve Ngoura, Nabil Alioui and Issa Soumare. Apart from Friday’s match, Isner’s side have two more friendlies lined up for later this month, before beginning their 2023-24 Ligue 1 campaign away to Montpellier on August 13.
