Real Sociedad will be looking to get back to winning ways when they host Cadiz in a La Liga fixture at Reale Arena on Friday night. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat at Valencia on Saturday, while Cadiz got the better of Rayo Vallecano with a similar scoreline, on the same day. Despite losing the match against Los Che, Imanol Alguacil’s side are still occupying third spot in the Spanish top flight standings, having collected 43 points from 23 games, nine adrift of second-placed Real Madrid, and just one clear of their nearest challengers Atletico Madrid. The visitors, meanwhile, are languishing at the 15th position, with 25 points to their name, just two above the relegation zone.

Not too long ago Real Sociedad were comfortably sitting in the top four, with a healthy lead over the chasing pack, but that is no longer the case due to a patchy run of form. The White-Blue have pocketed just five points from their last five games, winning just one game during that period, while losing two. Last time out, Alguacil’s side lost at Mestalla courtesy of Igor Zubeldia’s own goal, five minutes before the break. Their last victory came against Espanyol (3-2) at Cornella el Prat, thanks to Takefusa Kubo’s opener midway through the first half, Alexander Sorloth’s 51st-minute effort and an own goal by Leandro Cabera, three minutes into the hour-mark. It was their 13th top flight victory of the season.

Cadiz, on the other hand, got the better of Rayo Vallecano in their last outing, through Sergi Guargiola’s 74th-minute effort. The Yellow Submarine have now been victorious in each of their last three league-games in front of their own supporters. However, Cadiz’s away form has been disappointing, only managing eight points from 11 matches. Meanwhile Sergio Gonzalez’s side have won three of their last five league-matches, and the good run of form has helped them move out of the drop zone.

Probable Lineups

Real Sociedad’s injury list consists of Aritz Elustondo, David Silva, Mohamed Ali-cho, Sadiq Umar and Martin Merquelanz. Sorloth is likely to lead the line, with Kubo and Mikel Oyarzabal in support. As for Cadiz, the likes of Brian Ocampo, Alvaro Negredo, Jose Mari and Juan Cala, Jon Ander Garrido and Joseba Zaldua are occupying the treatment room. Guardiola is expected to partner Roger up front, with Escalante and Alcaraz running the engine room.
