Liverpool have very little to play for in the remaining weeks of the 2022-23 Premier League season. The club has failed to live up to the expectations massively, after going through a bad spell for most of the campaign. With the Reds out of all three domestic cup competitions and languishing closer to mid-table positions in the league, it is safe to say that this is a season to forget for them. However, in their last two matches, they have registered successive wins over Leeds United and Nottingham Forest.

Those results could give them hope for an unlikely push for a top four finish in the Premier League this season. In their last match against Nottingham Forest, Liverpool had to dig deep to get a narrow 3-2 win. Speaking about the resilience shown against Forest, left-back Andy Robertson told Liverpoolfc.com, “Yeah, it was very important. At times we’ve probably not dealt with setbacks as well as we should have done this season in terms of going behind in games, or getting equalisers against us and things like that.”

“So, Saturday was obviously pleasing from that point of view, taking the lead, you want to keep the lead, of course, and that’s what we have to look at. But being able to get yourself in front three times in the game and then ultimately get the three points, that was the most important thing and that was what we set out to do.”

‘The performances of late have been relatively good’

Liverpool can take plenty of positives from their last two performances. However, Robertson feels that they must keep that momentum going. “We have to keep it going. Of course we do, we have to try to keep up picking up points, keep trying to pick up wins and try to keep on improving on our performances. The performances of late have been relatively good and pleasing. And that’s the main thing, we have to then turn that into points, which we’ve been good at the last four games, we’re unbeaten [in] four, I think the Arsenal game, obviously we got off to a slow start, but I think we should have won it in the end. I don’t think anyone could argue that.”

“And then the last two we’ve managed to win, so we have to keep that going. We have to try to keep picking up points and see where we’re going to end up. It’s obviously out of our hands with what position we’ll finish in this season, but all we can do is win football games and try to keep pushing that way and let’s see come the last game of the season where we’re going to end.”

Andy Robertson on West Ham United

Next up for Liverpool is a difficult away trip to West Ham United in the Premier League. Robertson is expecting a difficult challenge on Wednesday night against the London outfit. “It’s always a tough game playing against West Ham. They were probably in a relegation battle at one point, but they’ve managed to pick up results to get themselves out of that. They’re obviously going well in Europe in the Conference League, and they’ve got a semi-final to look forward to. They’ve still got a lot to play for this season,” he explained.

“The confidence will be high with them after a good European night and the feel-good factor is kind of back there just now with the results they’ve got, so it’s going to be difficult. It always is. But we’ve got to be prepared, we’ve got to be ready to cause difficulties for them and to try to play our best game. If we do that then we believe that we can cause any team problems and that’s what we aim to do on Wednesday night.”
