Newcastle United will be looking seal their Champions League qualification when they host Leicester City in a Premier League fixture at St. James’s Park on Monday night. The hosts are currently occupying third spot in the English top flight standings, having collected 69 points from 36 games, level on points with fourth-placed Manchester United and just three points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool, who have played a game more. The visitors, meanwhile, are languishing at the 19th position, with 30 points to their name, three points adrift of safety. The Magpies are heading into the match on the back of a dominant 4-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in the mid-week, while Leicester were thrashed 3-0 by Liverpool last Monday.

Newcastle secured their 19th league-win of the season against the Seagulls on Thursday night courtesy of Deniz Undav’s own goal and one goal each from Dan Burn, Callum Wilson and Bruno Guimaraes. The Magpies have never participated in Europe’s top tier competition since 2002-03 and a point on Monday would seal Eddie Howe’s side’s top-four finish thanks to Liverpool’s draw with Aston Villa. Although Newcastle have taken just four points from their last three outings, they have won five of their last six games at St. James’ Park, scoring 17 goals and conceding only seven in the process.

Leicester, on he other hand, suffered a huge blow to their survival hopes after losing out to the Reds at King Power Stadium last time out. Curtis Jones’s first-half brace and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s 71st-minute stunner handed the Foxes their 22nd league-defeat of the season and with two games remaining, Dean Smith’s men are trailing 17th-placed Everton, who have played a game more, by three points. The Foxes are winless in their last four games, while taking just two points in the period and their last triumph came against Wolves almost a month ago. Meanwhile, Leicester are winless in their last seven away-games in the Premier League, losing five of those outings.
