Things aren’t getting any better for Paris Saint-Germain as the injuries and virus-hit side lost 3-1 at Monaco in the Ligue 1 fixture on Saturday. Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbape and Marco Verratti were sidelined with injuries, Achraf Hakimi and Sergio Ramos began on the bench, as both are recovering from minor knocks, while Fabian Ruiz, who was fit before the match wasn’t in the playing XI. Aleksandar Golvin scored an early goal for the hosts before  Ben Yedder netted either side of Warren Zaire-emery’s 39th-minute effort. It was PSG’s third league-defeat of the season and second consecutive one across all competitions.

Aleksandar Golvin and Ben Yedder netted for Monaco

It took just four minutes for Monaco to take the lead as Golvin slotted home from close range after some fine work by Youssouf Fofana down the right channel. It was the Russian footballer’s fifth goal of the season. The Red and Whites doubled the lead fourteen minutes later, after Krepin Diatte dispossessed 17-year-old PSG left-back El Chadaille Bitshiabu, on the edge of his own box and Ben Yedder made no mistake as he slotted home past the visiting goalkeeper Gianluiggi Donarumma and into the far bottom corner. Monaco were in complete control of the match and all over the Parisians, but the league-leaders managed to pull one goal back, against the run of play.

16-year-old Zaire-Emery scores for PSG

Juan Bernat’s low cross from the left flank was tapped in by Zaire-Emery at the far post. It was the 16-year-old’s first ever top flight goal. Meanwhile, Ben Yedder restored Monaco’s two-goal lead with a fine strike on the stroke of half-time. After the break, Le Rocher held on to the lead and secured their 14th top flight victory of the season. PSG, on the other hand, find themselves just five points clear of second-placed Marseille, who beat Clermont foot 2-0 in the other match of the day. Christopher Galitier’s side are set to host Bayern Munich in the first leg of Champions League last-16 on Tuesday and this is not the kind of preparation they hoped for.
