Millwall will be looking to continue their 100% start to the Championship season when they host Bristol City at the Den on Saturday. The hosts kicked off their English second tier campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over last season’s playoff semi-finalists Middlesbrough at Riverside Stadium, while the Robins played out a 1-1 draw against Preston North End. Meanwhile, the Lions suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat to League One outfit Reading in the EFL Cup in the mid-week, while the visitors thrashed Oxford United 5-1 to advance to the second round of the competition. Meanwhile, Millwall have prevailed in three of their last five encounters against Bristol, while the most recent clash in December last year ended in a goalless draw.

Millwall narrowly missed out on a playoff spot last season following an eighth place finish in the Championship standings, just a solitary point behind the top six. Nevertheless, the Lions have made the perfect start to their new second tier campaign, getting the better of Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium last Saturday thanks to substitute Romain Esse’s lone goal ten minutes from time. However, just three days later, Gary Rowett’s men suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat against third tier side Reading. Although Milwall had almost 60% ball possession and attempted 20 shots, the Royals were more clinical in front of goal, scoring four times courtesy of Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan’s brace and one goal each from Charlie Savage and Mamadi Camara. Rowett’s men will now be looking to put that Cup exit aside and bounce back with a solid league-victory against Bristol City at the weekend.
Bristol City, on the other hand, shared the spoils against Preston in their Championship-opener last Saturday despite taking the lead through Sam Bell’s 47th-minute opener. Nigel Pearson’s side looked set to take all three points, but the Invincibles managed to find a late equaliser through Will Keane’s 87th-minute effort. Three days, later, a much changed City XI secured a comprehensive victory over Oxford United in the EFL Cup thanks to new signing Jason Kinght’s brace and one goal each from Harry Cornick, Nahki Wells and Kal Naismith, and progressed to the second round of the competition.
