Chelsea had a massive rebuild last summer with plenty of incomings and outgoings happening at the club. A host of players left Stamford Bridge for a new journey, while the club welcomed a lot of exciting talents and some for big money. On top of it, they also had a managerial change with Mauricio Pochettino taking over the hot seat at the club. The plethora of changes had their supporters excited and optimistic for the new season.

However, the changes had little effect on the results of this campaign. Chelsea continued to be inconsistent like last season and have been struggling around the mid-table positions in the Premier League. This has resulted in Pochettino getting his fair share of criticism, while some believe it would take time for him to get his side up and running. Even though Chelsea have shown glimpses of Pochettino’s style of play and registered some eye-catching results, overall, it has been another underwhelming campaign.

Cole Palmer on Mauricio Pochettino

However, Cole Palmer is confident that Chelsea will only get better under Pochettino’s management. “I think there is so much talent at Chelsea. The way that the manager works with us on the pitch, and the things he does with us, it’s only going to get better. I’m sure if not next season, the season after, it’s a project, everyone is young and everyone is trying to play well so you will see it sooner or later. We’re still in the FA Cup, hopefully we’ll win on Sunday [against Leicester City] and get to Wembley again. We’ll take each league game as it comes, hopefully climb the table and you’ll never know where we finish,” Palmer, quoted on the club’s website, said after their win over Newcastle United.

The 21-year-old attacker then shifted his attention to the Premier League win over the Magpies. Palmer continued his rich vein of form by scoring the second goal of the 3-2 win. He hardly took any time to settle at Stamford Bridge following his move from Manchester City during the last summer window. Palmer praised the courage shown by his team during the win over Newcastle. “We had the courage to play which is what we need as a young team. We are going to make mistakes, so it’s about going on to the next one and the next one,” he stated.

The attacker added: “We’ve had some difficult results recently, the cup final versus Liverpool, the game against Wolves – so to get points is vital for us. I think we showed a bit of passion and courage. Winning those second balls and not getting bullied. When they scored we thought we knew we had to defend better than before so we could get those three points and take a step in the right direction. It’s about taking it game by game and having good performances. If we win football matches, the fans will be happy and we want to do that for them. It’s about taking it game by game and seeing how high we can finish.”
