Manchester United endured a disastrous outing against FC Copenhagen in a midweek Champions League game. Everything that could go against them went against them on that dreadful night. Despite starting the game on front foot and taking a 2-0 lead, the match quickly changed on its head after Red Devils went down to 10 men following a controversial red card issued to Marcus Rashford. Among other decisions, a contentious penalty was also given to both sides.

For long periods, Manchester United held their shape and even led 3-2 at one stage before succumbing late in the game to lose the Champions League clash to FC Copenhagen 4-3. Among the many things that went wrong in that day, one of them was the injury to Jonny Evans in the first half. He had to be substituted when the team was dominating the game. Evans was a big part of United playing out from the back and controlling the possession.

During the pre-match press conference for the clash against Luton Town in the Premier League, Erik ten Hag was asked whether Evans will be fit for the match and for Northern Ireland next week. The manager, quoted on the club’s website, said, “We don’t have, in this moment, a full assessment done. So we didn’t finish it and we don’t have all the details so far. But for tomorrow he is out.” When asked about next week, he replied, “I can’t say this because we haven’t fully finished the assessment.”

Ten Hag was then asked whether how Rashford has been following the red card and what does the manager make about his form. “I think he is not happy, we are not happy but that is because we have an expectation. He has high expectations from himself and in this moment, he is not in the best form. I know he will be back and I know when the team is playing better, he will be playing better. He will go and score goals, I am confident on that. Also this season, he will improve and he will score goals. He is totally in the team and he is totally aware of everything. He will be back on track soon,” he explained.

Luton Town were one of the surprise entries to the Premier League this season. Even though the team has struggled for consistency so far this campaign, Luton performed brilliantly to get a point against Liverpool last weekend. Asked about them, ten Hag said, “I think they have had some more good performances and results, so we are fully aware of that. In the Premier League there are no easy games and you have to play at your best and your highest levels in every game. So we are fully aware of it and we have to be 100 per cent fully focused on it in the game to win that game.”
